Anna Chakvetadze into US Open Womens Tennis Semis

Anna Chakvetadze is the only women left from our pre-Open picks to steal the hearts and minds of the tennis world. Venus Williams has almost single handedly destroy the list, going through Ivanović, and Jankovic. Ivanovic had everything tailor made for her big arrival in the NYC spotlight, and despite receiving the most attention at the US Open, her exit in the round of 16 cost her elite Tennis "it" girl status. A la Sharapova and all her endoresments.



Can Anna Chakvetadze reach super-stardom this weekend in NYC. I'm not so sure, I don't even know how to correctly pronounce her last name, not much is known about her personality, and she doesn't seem to have the same flair for the camera as Sharapova & Ivanovic. Until now Chakvetade was best known for getting her racket caught in her ponytail.



Chakvetadze beat out Shahar Peer 6-4, 6-1 in the quarters and now will face another Russian, Svetlana Kuznetsova in the semi-finals. Two wins away of the her first major. If Anna can somehow win this thing, and follow it up with a stellar performance on the talk shows...we just might have a new tennis queen.
