2009 Cager Classic & NCAAs

This weekend it was all about teams from the East. Starting with the Cager Classic, The East Girls including Marisa Wolfe, Lynzee Panchik and Keri Neal won the Girl’s Classic. Bill Henry’s East Boys, with the help of Ryan Young, Matt Shanty, and Ryan Risch won the Boy’s Classic. In the NCAA Tournament the possibility of an all Big East Final Four is alive and well, as Uconn, Pitt, Villanova, Syracuse and Louisville all advanced to the Sweet Sixteen. Pitt will face Xavier next in what should be a good game, as Xavier always plays well in the Tournament. Pitt will play in Boston starting on Thursday night.

Cager Classic set for this weekend.

One of our favorite events of the year is the A-K Valley Cager Classic. This is the 12th year for the event, and girls game starts @ 6pm this Saturday the 15th. The boys game directly follows the girls, and is normally a sell-out. It's a high octane event with both teams normaly over the 100 point mark. It's also the last time to see some of your favorite high athletes in action.

East Wins both Cager Classics

Last night at the Cager Classic the East squad was victorious in both the girls and boys game. Jill Emberg from Kittanning had an MVP performance as she lead the way with 26 pts.

The boys games featured more college talent than the girl and the west with Highlands, Hampton, and Fox Chapel were heavy favorites. However despite the tough defense by both teams (I thought it was a little too intense as times) the East squad were 20 point winners. Nick Matviko showed he could make an impact next year on the college level, as his performance helped his team win.
